It follows the life of two characters, Archie and Lucy Saunders, who leave the familiar comfort of their home farm in Victoria, Australia to begin a new life in the hustle and bustle of Melbourne at a private Catholic school. With memories of her mother’s heart wrenching death in a tragic accident that haunt Lucy, she spirals out of control in the dark and twisted underground of Melbourne…

Count Down Australian Music TV Series https://battleofbands.com.au/count-down/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=count-down Thu, 13 Aug 2020 05:47:23 +0000 http://battleofbands.com.au/?p=389 Countdown almost single-handedly broke AC-DC into the Australian music market. Most of the band’s new clips were explicitly made for Countdown; ‘Jailbreak’ was one of the first clips to incorporate movie-style sound effects, and their legendary ‘It’s A Long Way To The Top’ clip was shot especially for them in Melbourne, by the Countdown crew.

AC/DC’s live performance as Bon Scott dressed as a school girl and Angus Young as school boy, blasting out ‘Baby Please Don’t Go’. Its crazy but Bon was way ahead of his time.

Pseudo Echo had their Big break on Countdown with ‘You’re not listening’. This was our same goal. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be interviewed by Molly and also Gavin Wood. They have so much enthusiasm for music.

Countdown has launched and supported a vast range of Australian acts so far Australian Crawl, The Church, Eurogliders, Richard Clapton, Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons, Paul Kelly, The Saints, Split Enz who also formed Crowded House, Moving Pictures, Uncanny X-Men, Mental as Anything, Men At Work, Little River Band or LRB, Flowers/Icehouse, Pseudo Echo, Andy Gibb, The Swingers, The Reels, Models, Kids In The Kitchen, The Radiators, Wa Wa Nee, Sharon O’Neill, I’m talking with Kate Ceberano, who I had the hots for her growing up, and had the TV week poster on my wall. All these acts owed an enormous debt to Countdown, and ended up interviewing Kate on Radio Port Douglas 107.1fm back in the day.

This is one lesson I thought I would have learnt from my mistakes. It was the start of a journey riddled of recklessness, booze, drugs, sex, crime, religion, but best of all, rock ‘n’ roll and good times

This book has been in the making for literally three decades. First putting pencil to paper back in 1991, I wrote the first chapter or so while spending two nights in a hospital bed at Mossman, North Queensland. This was followed by many countless late nights writing bits and pieces over the years, even decades. The past two to three years have been more intense, borderline obsessed with the completion of writing, hiring, and collaborating with professional editors.

The book was born around a handful of songs that had been written and performed. The song ‘Carefully Sold’ was written on a farm when I was 19 and various other songs over the years.

Having whooping cough in early 2010s damaged my vocal cords, destroyed my confidence, and my self-esteem. Visiting dark and stormy places in my mind, I haven’t sung nor played in my band, Lizardskin, or any form since. A feeling of dead-man walking cursed me. Writing this story became a positive creative outlet, shining a much-needed light during the darkest of times.

Those who know me well will know I get no more thrill and enjoyment than out of telling and sharing a good story or yarn over a few beers. I hope you enjoy my first attempt of story-writing and novel.
